Antique Japanese kiridame nesting lacquered wooden tray set with storage crate, Taisho era | SKU: 26J-0152
A handsome graduated set of circular lacquered wooden trays that nest neatly together, preserved in its original inscribed wooden storage crate.
This antique Japanese kiridame set is formed as a nest of round trays in graduated sizes, each with a shallow raised rim and a warm red-brown lacquered surface. When stacked, the trays create a tall, sculptural column; separated, their stepped sizing and concentric rims become clearly visible. Dark vertical joining strips are visible on the sides, indicating bentwood-style construction reinforced at the seam. The set is housed in a plain wooden storage crate with a rope handle and brush-written inscription, adding to its strong period character and practical appeal as a complete surviving set.
In a modern home, this graduated tray set offers striking decorative presence while remaining highly usable. The trays can be displayed stacked on a sideboard or shelf, or used individually on a table, desk, or entry console for serving, organizing small objects, or presenting seasonal displays. Their restrained circular form and mellow lacquered finish suit Japandi, wabi-sabi, and other interiors that favor natural materials and timeworn surfaces. Kept with its original crate, the set also makes an appealing addition to a collection of Japanese utilitarian craft and lacquerware.
