Antique Japanese Ko Tansu Small Chest With Hikido Sliding Door And Six Multi Sized Drawers, 1920s (SKU 25D-G019)
Compact Taishō-era ko tansu with hikido sliding doors and multi-sized drawers for refined, functional storage.
This charming antique Japanese ko tansu embodies the minimalist practicality of early 20th-century design. Crafted in warm-toned kiri (paulownia) with a clear, even grain, it features a balanced façade of six multi-sized drawers arranged around a pair of central hikido sliding doors. Simple iron warabite-style pulls and circular finger plates add quiet character while preserving the chest’s understated aesthetic.
Inside, open shelves sit behind the sliding doors, ideal for storing documents, textiles, or tea ware, while the shallow upper drawers and deeper lower drawers provide flexible organization. Originally used as a small merchant or household chest, this ko tansu is perfectly scaled today for use as an entry cabinet, bedside chest, or compact sideboard, bringing authentic Taishō-era warmth to contemporary interiors.
