Antique Japanese Ko Tansu Small Chest With Hikido Sliding Door And Multi Sized Drawers, 1920s (SKU 25D-G010)

Compact Taishō-era ko tansu with hikido sliding doors and beautifully balanced multi-sized drawers.

This antique Japanese ko tansu embodies the clean, practical elegance of early 20th-century cabinetry. The upper section features a pair of hikido sliding doors with framed panels and round iron hikite pulls, opening to a versatile storage compartment. Below, an orderly arrangement of small and full-width drawers provides a thoughtful mix of spaces ideal for textiles, documents, or everyday essentials.

Crafted in warm-toned hardwood with a straight grain and fitted with understated iron hardware, this small chest retains its original side carry handles and a working lock with key on one drawer. The overall design is quietly refined, making it equally at home in a traditional washitsu, as a sideboard in a modern living room, or as a distinctive accent in an entryway.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
