Compact Taishō-era ko tansu with full-width drawers and simplified iron kanagu pulls

This antique Japanese ko tansu (small chest) is crafted in warm, honey-toned wood with a clean, rectilinear form that reflects early 20th-century taste. Three full-width drawers slide smoothly within a solid case, joined at the corners with traditional dovetail work that remains clearly visible and adds to the piece’s handmade character.

Each drawer is fitted with simplified kanagu hardware: understated iron warabite-style pulls and round lock escutcheons, with a working key to secure the upper section. The interior is left in a lighter natural finish, making this chest ideal for storing textiles, stationery, or treasured small objects while bringing an authentic Taishō-period accent to a tokonoma, sideboard, or modern entryway.
