Antique Japanese Ko Tansu Small Chest With Floral Motif Hikido Sliding Door And Multi Sized Drawers, 1910s, Taisho Era (SKU 25D-G006)

Compact Taisho-era ko tansu with charming floral hikido and beautifully balanced multi-sized drawers.

This antique Japanese ko tansu (small chest) showcases the refined simplicity of early 20th-century cabinetry. The warm, straight-grain wood case is fronted by a practical arrangement of multi-sized drawers, each fitted with classic iron warabite-style pulls that sit comfortably in the hand and lend a subtle, understated presence.

Above, a pair of hikido sliding doors introduces a softer note, their papered panels stenciled with a repeating floral motif reminiscent of chrysanthemums against a dotted ground. Together, the floral motif hikido and varied drawer configuration make this small chest ideal as an accent storage piece for textiles, stationery, or tea utensils, bringing authentic Taisho-era character into a modern interior.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
