This is an antique Japanese personal storage chest called Ko Tansu from middle Meiji period (1880's-1890's).
The Ko tansu is a very versatile chest. In Japan it had many different uses depending on style, design, or wood type. It is made of Paulownia (Kirinoki) wood. The compact size and combination of different size of drawers make this piece a great addition for a desk, living room, or anyplace that needs a small piece to add interest and store your various accessories.
