Antique Japanese Japanese Bronse Mirror, Edo Era (SKU 25D-371-1)
Finely cast Edo-period bronze hand mirror with auspicious crane and pine design
This substantial kagami (hand mirror) is crafted in solid bronze, its reflective face now softly dulled by time and use. The reverse is richly decorated in high relief with an elegant landscape of flying and standing cranes among ancient pines, bamboo, flowing water and distant hills – classic Japanese symbols of longevity, resilience and good fortune. Large stylised characters in relief add a bold graphic element, framed by an inscription running vertically along the rim.
Once an essential item in a lady’s dressing area or used in shrine and household rituals, this Edo-era bronze mirror now reads as a powerful decorative object, its deep brown patina and worn reflective surface speaking to generations of handling. Displayed on a stand or hung on the wall, the piece brings an authentic touch of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and symbolism to any antique, wabi-sabi or Japan-inspired interior.
