Charming Showa-period style ceramic figure adapted as a candle stand
This expressive hand-built ceramic figure depicts a robed attendant holding a tall staff topped with a shallow dish and iron spike for securing a candle. Glazed in rich moss-green with creamy white accents, the piece captures the playful yet serene character often associated with Japanese folk sculpture, offering a whimsical reinterpretation of the traditional Daruma motif.
The figure stands on a vertically striped pedestal base, giving it a totemic presence ideal for display on an altar, tokonoma, or sideboard. Supplied with its original signed wooden tomobako storage box, this antique candle holder (rōsoku-tate) is both a functional lighting accessory and a collectible work of Japanese studio pottery.
A characterful addition to any Japanese antique, mingei, or Daruma-themed collection.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
