Vintage Japanese Ornament, Wood (SKU 25D-252-1)

Showa-era double-sheave wooden block repurposed as a sculptural ornament

Hand-carved from a single block of dense hardwood, this vintage Japanese pulley (katori) has been preserved as a warm, tactile wooden ornament. The softly rounded edges, deep honey-brown patina and visible tool marks speak to years of practical use, now transformed into an object of wabi-sabi beauty.

Twin vertical slots reveal the original double wheels inside, while rope-worn openings at each end hint at its maritime or workshop past. Displayed upright as a small sculpture or laid flat on a shelf, this Showa-era piece adds an authentic industrial accent to Japanese, coastal or minimalist interiors.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
