Vintage Japanese Mizusashi Water Pot, 1970s, Showa Era (SKU 25D-180-4)

Showa-era mizusashi with soft white glaze and celadon-green pooling, complete with signed tomobako

This vintage Japanese water pot, or mizusashi, dates to the Showa period and features a gentle, wheel-thrown form finished in a milky white glaze with warm sandy undertones. Translucent celadon-green runs softly over the shoulder, evoking mountain mists and lending the piece a tranquil, seasonal presence ideal for the tea room or a serene interior vignette.

The flat lid is decorated with spiral throwing rings that echo through the interior and base, culminating in a sculpted central knob reminiscent of a small peak rising from swirling water. Presented with its original signed wooden tomobako, this 1970s Showa-era mizusashi offers both functional elegance for the tea ceremony and a refined example of modern Japanese studio pottery for display.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
