Vintage Japanese Mizusashi Water Pot, 1970s, Showa Era (SKU 25D-180-1)

Showa-era mizusashi in rustic brown stoneware with original wooden tomobako storage box

This vintage Japanese water pot, or mizusashi, presents a classic, full-bodied silhouette in warm chestnut-brown stoneware. The subtly faceted shoulders, lightly banded neck, and natural firing speckles give the surface a quiet movement that suits both formal tea gatherings and everyday interior display. A glossy black metal lid provides a clean, modern contrast to the earthy clay body.

The accompanying signed wooden tomobako is inscribed 「古唐津水指」(Ko-Karatsu Mizusashi), evoking the venerable Karatsu ware tradition that has long been cherished in the Japanese tea ceremony. Whether used functionally as a water jar or as an understated flower vessel, this Showa-era piece brings the wabi-sabi charm of the tearoom into contemporary spaces.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
