Vintage Japanese Kabin Flower Vase (SKU 25D-332-2-6)
Heisei-era studio tsubo with earthy ash glaze and original signed tomobako box
This rounded Japanese tsubo-style vase showcases the quiet strength of contemporary Mingei-inspired pottery from the late 20th century. Thrown in robust, iron-rich clay and fired to a warm stoneware body, it is finished with a natural ash glaze that fades from pale celadon at the shoulder through amber ochre into deep umber and charcoal tones toward the base, evoking mountain horizons at dusk.
The textured surface bears subtle firing freckles and gradations of color that reveal the movement of flame in the kiln, while the narrow, slightly recessed mouth keeps the silhouette pure and sculptural. A crisp potter’s seal is impressed to the foot, and the piece is accompanied by its original cedar tomobako storage box, brush-inscribed and stamped, underscoring its status as a signed Heisei-era work suitable for display in the tokonoma, as a flower vessel for ikebana, or as a focal point in a modern interior.
