Vintage Japanese Ikebana Vase, Heisei Era (SKU 25D-332-2-4)

Textured kuro-yu studio vase with flowing ash-glaze band and signed tomobako box

This rounded vintage Japanese vase presents a powerful contrast between dark, volcanic-style clay and a soft, pale-green ash glaze that sweeps in a single gesture around the body. The thickly thrown form, narrow mouth, and flared lip evoke contemporary interpretations of classic tsubo storage jars, while the granular surface catches the light with subtle variations of charcoal, iron brown, and grey.

A hand-applied glaze ribbon, reminiscent of a mountain ridge or river in mist, introduces movement and depth, embodying the wabi-sabi appreciation of natural, unforced beauty. The vase is accompanied by its original signed tomobako (wooden storage box), confirming its status as a studio piece and making it ideal for display in a modern tokonoma, on a sideboard, or as a focal point in a minimalist interior.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
