Vintage Japanese Vase, 1980s, Showa Era (SKU 25D-272-1)

Heisei-era square ceramic vase with stylised wave and geometric banding

This vintage Japanese vase presents a striking rectangular silhouette, its four faces framed by bold, hand-incised decoration. Soft grey-beige glaze provides a calm ground for rhythmic seigaiha-inspired scrolling waves, flanked by diagonal herringbone bands in muted ochre and charcoal that recall traditional textile and lattice patterns.

Dating from the late Shōwa to early Heisei period, the piece blends mid-century modern sensibilities with classic Japanese motifs, making it ideal as a subtle ikebana container or sculptural accent. The narrow neck and bottle form suit a single branch, grasses, or dried stems, while the graphic relief carving adds presence even when displayed empty.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
