Vintage Japanese Flower Vase, 1980s, Showa Era (SKU 25D-267-3)

Showa-era white porcelain vase with pastel butterflies and original signed tomobako

This elegant Showa-period hanaire is crafted in luminous white porcelain, its pure surface serving as a serene backdrop for delicately enamelled chō (butterflies). Soft shades of lavender, green, and apricot are outlined in fine gilt, evoking the lightness of spring air as the insects drift across the rounded shoulder and tapering body.

A band of vertical pastel stripes with gold accents encircles the foot, giving the piece a refined, contemporary Showa sensibility while remaining rooted in traditional Japanese design. The vase bears a clear maker’s mark and comes housed in its original cedar tomobako, hand-inscribed and sealed, making it ideal for display, ikebana practice, or as a collectible example of late-20th-century Japanese porcelain.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
