Vintage Japanese Flower Vase, 1980s, Showa Era (SKU 25D-267-2)

Showa-era studio pottery with warm kiln-fired gradients and hand-carved motif

This rounded Japanese vase showcases the earthy elegance of late Showa-period ceramics. The softly swollen form is thrown in a sandy stoneware clay, then finished with a natural ash-style firing that leaves subtle gradations of cream, amber, and reddish-brown across the surface. The shoulder is left with a gently burnished, unglazed rim, emphasizing the tactility of the clay and giving the piece a distinctly wabi-sabi presence.

Across the body, a repeating hand-incised pattern creates a lively all-over texture that catches the light and enhances the vase’s sculptural silhouette. Signed with the potter’s seal to the base and housed in its original wooden tomobako storage box, this vintage Japanese vase is ideal as a standalone objet d’art or for displaying seasonal ikebana in a contemporary interior.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
