Vintage Japanese Ikebana Flower Basket / Vase (SKU 25D-319-2)
Showa-era bamboo ikebana basket with tall handle and elegant woven body
This vintage Japanese vase is in fact a finely woven hanakago, a bamboo flower basket traditionally used for ikebana. The tall, arching handle and slim rectangular body give it a graceful vertical presence, while the warm honey-brown patina speaks to decades of careful use and handling.
The body is worked in an intricate herringbone-style plait, framed by vertical bamboo strips and set on four small feet bound at the corners. A zigzag rim detail and original inner bamboo liner complete the piece, making it ideal for displaying seasonal branches or as a sculptural accent in a Showa-era inspired interior.
