Vintage Japanese Toro Lantern (SKU 25D-167)

Compact cast-iron tōrō lantern with moon-and-sun cut-outs for garden or alcove display

This vintage Japanese toro lantern is a charming small-scale interpretation of the classic stone garden灯籠 (tōrō). Cast in a deep green-black iron, it features a broad, gently upturned kasa (roof) and a sturdy four-legged base, echoing the proportions of traditional pedestal lanterns seen in temple and tea gardens across Japan.

The central light chamber is decorated with circular and crescent openings, symbolising sun and moon, with textured translucent inserts that softly diffuse candle or LED light. Ideal for use as an accent in a tsuboniwa courtyard, on an engawa veranda, or indoors in a tokonoma-style display, this piece brings an authentic touch of Heisei-era Japanese garden design to any space.
