Vintage Japanese Jubako Tiered Food Box, Showa Era (SKU 25D-312-1)

Handsome Showa-era jūbako with rich wood-grain lacquer and versatile four-tier stacking design.

This vintage Japanese tiered food box, or jūbako, showcases a deep reddish-brown lacquer that highlights a striking wood-grain pattern across all four tiers and the lid. The exterior’s glossy finish and clean, squared profile give it an understated elegance that works beautifully in both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Inside, each removable layer is finished in classic vermilion lacquer, creating a refined contrast when the box is opened and used for osechi ryori, sushi, or shared appetizers. The tiers can also be divided into two smaller two-tier sets, making this Showa-era piece as practical for modern entertaining as it is collectible as a Japanese lacquerware accent.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
