Vintage Japanese Tea Bowl Set, Pottery, 1940s, Showa Era (SKU 25S-437)

This vintage Bizen ware (備前焼) sencha tea set is a beautifully unified collection consisting of a Hohin (handleless teapot), Yuzamashi (water cooler), and three small Yunomi (tea cups) — each piece formed from iron-rich Bizen clay and fired in a traditional wood-burning kiln.

The natural interplay of fire, ash, and clay has created a dynamic surface with earthy reds, browns, and silvery ash tones, reflecting the wabi-sabi aesthetic — rustic simplicity balanced with quiet refinement.

Made in the Bizen tradition of Okayama Prefecture, this set embodies over a millennium of ceramic heritage, known for its unglazed finish and strength from high-temperature firing.

Comes in its original signed wooden box, and is ideal for sencha (green tea) service or display as a fine example of Japan’s enduring pottery art.
