Vintage Japanese Tanuki Statue (SKU 25D-425-1)

Charming Heisei-era ceramic couple tanuki for good fortune and hospitality

This vintage Japanese tanuki statue depicts an affectionate male and female pair standing side by side beneath a wide straw kasa hat. Glazed in warm browns and creamy whites with soft green accents, the figures display the classic plump bellies and bright, rounded eyes associated with Shigaraki-style tanuki, symbols of prosperity, cheerfulness, and protection for the home or shop entrance.

The female tanuki wears a red bow and holds a leaf, while the male carries a sake flask and ledger-style tokkuri, traditional attributes that represent joy, generosity, and trustworthy dealings. Crafted in the late Showa to early Heisei period, this ceramic ornament makes an inviting focal point on a genkan shoe cabinet, kamidana shelf, or as a playful accent within a curated collection of Japanese folk art.
