Vintage Japanese Tsugaru-nuri Lacquer Table Board, 1950s, Showa Era (SKU 25D-124)
Showa-era urushi table board with rich mottled red-brown finish
This vintage Japanese table board, or oshiki, features a striking mottled lacquer surface in deep red and earthy brown tones. The low, square form with a subtly raised rim was traditionally used for serving shared dishes or as an elegant base for tea utensils, flower arrangements, or seasonal displays in a tatami room.
The surface shows a dense, almost stone-like speckled pattern characteristic of mid-Showa decorative lacquer work, giving the board a warm, understated presence. Its flat profile makes it equally suitable today as a minimalist coffee table top on floor cushions, a display platform for ceramics, or a distinctive tray on a sideboard.
