Vintage Japanese Ornament, Stone (SKU 25D-298-1)

Hand-carved stone garden ornament evoking a thatched minka roof

This vintage Japanese stone ornament is carved in the form of a traditional minka farmhouse roof, complete with layered thatch texture and a raised ridge line. The sculptor has contrasted a roughly hewn base stone with a crisply faceted upper section, creating a powerful, architectural presence ideal for a Japanese garden or wabi-sabi inspired landscape.

Chisel marks are intentionally left visible across the sloping sides, catching light and shadow much like weathered thatch. The compact, weighty form makes this piece suitable as a focal stone beside a path, near a water feature, or as a meditative accent in a courtyard, echoing the quiet simplicity of Showa-era gardens.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
