Vintage Japanese Haribako Small Drawer (SKU 25D-086-1)

Showa-era burled wood ko-tansu chest with compact, functional storage

This vintage Japanese small drawer chest is a handsome example of mid-Showa design, combining practical storage with the warmth of richly figured veneer. The front is clad in burled wood with swirling grain that catches the light, contrasted by dark lacquered sides and simple metal pulls for a clean, modernist profile.

Likely used as a ko-tansu or desktop chest for documents and personal items, its low, boxy form makes it ideal for placing on the floor, atop a larger tansu, or on a sideboard. The varied drawer sizes offer flexible organization, allowing this 1960s Showa-era piece to transition easily into contemporary interiors as a nightstand, entry storage, or small office cabinet.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
