Showa-era wooden ko-bako with sliding inner tray and simple iron clasp

This compact vintage box is a charming example of mid-Showa Japanese storage design, crafted in warm-toned solid wood with a clearly visible grain. The exterior is understated and rectilinear, accented only by a small forged-iron hasp on the front, recalling the clean lines of tansu cabinetry in miniature form.

Inside, the lid opens to reveal a single main compartment and a fitted sliding tray, ideal for organizing writing tools, sewing notions, or keepsakes. Brass hinges, old finish, ink traces, and light wear at the corners speak to decades of gentle use, giving this small drawer box an authentic wabi-sabi presence that sits comfortably on a desk, shelf, or tokonoma.
