Compact three-drawer ko-tansu for stationery, tools, and treasured keepsakes

This charming vintage Japanese small chest features three neatly stacked drawers framed in warm, honey-toned wood. The simple box form is elevated by original iron warabite-style pulls and a keyhole escutcheon on the lower drawer, details that echo the fittings of full-sized tansu chests while keeping the scale intimate and practical for a desk or shelf.

Likely used as a document or writing ko-dana, the drawers slide smoothly and reveal beautifully aged interiors, showing the natural grain and patina earned through daily use. Subtle wear, old nail heads, and softly rounded edges speak to its Taishō-period craftsmanship, making this piece a functional accent that brings authentic wabi-sabi character to contemporary interiors.
