Vintage Japanese Lacquered Small Drawer, Showa Era (SKU 25D-173)

Showa-era two-drawer ko-tansu with rich red-brown finish and rounded corners

This compact Japanese chest features a striking lacquer-like red-brown surface with lively grain patterning, typical of mid-Showa taste for warm, modern lines. The case is softly rounded at the edges, giving the piece a refined, almost streamlined silhouette that sits beautifully on a desk, shelf, or low tansu.

Two smoothly sliding drawers with simple brass warabite-style pulls offer practical storage for stationery, tea utensils, or small accessories. The top and sides show the quiet patina, small marks, and color variation that come from decades of careful use, adding depth and character without compromising function.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
