Vintage Japanese Shoin Panels, 1960s, Showa Era (SKU 25D-037-1)
Elegant mid-century shoin-style ranma panels with refined vertical kumiko latticework
This set of four vintage Japanese shoin panels showcases the quiet discipline of traditional kumiko joinery. Slender vertical slats are rhythmically intersected by horizontal members, creating a light, transparent screen ideal for filtering views and softening light in a classic washitsu or modern interior. The warm, honey-toned wood has mellowed with age, giving the frames a gentle sheen that complements both minimalist and rustic spaces.
Originally used in a shoin-style room as interior transom or partition panels, they can now be repurposed as wall art, room dividers, or custom sliding doors. The lower register features a tighter horizontal grid, adding visual weight and architectural interest while remaining true to mid-Showa design sensibilities. Light wear, small marks, and subtle color variation attest to their age and authentic use without detracting from their structural integrity.
