Vintage Japanese Shoin Door, Wood, Showa Era (SKU 25S-620)

Showa-era carved shoin doors with crane and treasure ship motif

This pair of vintage Japanese shoin doors is finely crafted in warm-toned hardwood, the slender kumiko lattice framing a dynamic scene of a flying crane and a takarabune treasure ship riding stylised waves. The delicate openwork allows light to pass through while the bold, three-dimensional carvings give the piece sculptural presence, making it ideal as a wall-mounted artwork or as an architectural accent in a tokonoma or alcove-style display.

Symbolising longevity and good fortune, the tsuru (crane) soars above the sea, while the treasure ship carries auspicious coral and bales, a classic New Year and celebratory motif in Japanese interiors. The soft patina of the wood, crisp chisel work, and lightly raised relief speak to skilled Showa-period craftsmanship, offering a refined blend of traditional design and understated wabi-sabi charm.
