Vintage Japanese Shishi Statue, Showa Era (SKU 25D-425-2)
Vibrant Showa-era ceramic pair of guardian shishi lions in flowing green and blue glaze
This vintage Japanese shishi (also known as komainu or guardian lion-dogs) pair is richly modelled with dynamic manes, powerful paws, and dramatically curled tails. Finished in a lustrous green, blue, and amber over- glaze, each figure faces slightly inward, designed to be displayed together at an entrance, tokonoma alcove, or on a low chest to symbolically ward off misfortune and invite good fortune.
Typical of late Showa-era studio work, the statues balance bold, almost playful expressions with refined detailing in the fur and tails, highlighted by the glossy ceramic glaze that catches the light beautifully. This komainu set adds an unmistakably Japanese accent to interiors—equally at home in a traditional washitsu setting or as a striking focal point in a modern space.
