Vintage Japanese Shishi Lion, Showa Era (SKU 25D-120)
Showa-era glazed ceramic pair of guardian shishi lions on original wooden stand
This vintage Japanese shishi (also known as komainu) pair is rendered in richly pooled green, blue, and ivory glazes that catch the light beautifully. Each lion is modeled with a bold, curling mane, powerful haunches, and a dramatically flared tail, embodying the protective energy traditionally placed at shrine and temple entrances.
Presented together on a simple stained wooden dai (stand) with a small wooden name plaque reading 「魔除獅子」(mayoke shishi – “evil-warding lions”), this Showa-era set is ideal for an alcove, entryway, or tokonoma display. The compact scale and expressive faces make it a characterful accent for both classic Japanese interiors and modern eclectic spaces.
