Vintage Japanese Komainu Shishi Lion (SKU 25D-011)

Charming mid‑Showa ceramic pair of guardian shishi lions in flowing celadon and jade glazes.

This vintage Japanese shishi (also called komainu) pair captures the playful yet protective spirit of traditional shrine guardians. Molded in a compact, stylized form, each lion sits alert with a full, curling mane and boldly carved paws, their openwork faces lending a light, almost animated expression. The glossy overglaze pools into the recesses of the fur, emphasizing the sculpted detail and giving the figures a lively depth.

Soft gradients of celadon green, amber, and hints of cobalt blue wash across the bodies, tails, and manes, evoking classic Japanese studio ceramics from the late Showa era.
