Vintage Japanese Haribako Sewing Box, Showa Era (SKU 25D-088)

Showa-era Hari-bako with hinged lid and multiple drawers for sewing notions

This vintage Japanese sewing box, or itomono-bako, features a richly figured veneer front with warm, swirling grain that evokes mid-century Showa design. The hinged top opens to reveal a shallow compartment for frequently used tools, while the front is organized with three metal-handled drawers to keep threads, needles, and small accessories neatly arranged.

Compact yet practical, the box’s clean lines and softly rounded corners give it a modern tansu-like presence that suits both traditional and contemporary interiors. Whether used as a functional sewing chest, a jewelry organizer, or a decorative storage box, it brings an authentic touch of 1950s Japan to any space.

A refined, practical piece for collectors of Japanese antiques and lovers of vintage sewing boxes alike.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
