Taisaho-era itabako sewing chest with beautiful figured grain and practical hidden storage
This compact vintage haribako (sewing box) combines the warmth of richly figured wood with the quiet practicality of Japanese design. The front is arranged like a miniature tansu, with three drawers and a small side compartment, all faced in dramatically grained panels that catch the light in deep amber and chestnut tones.
The hinged lid lifts to reveal an upper tray with dividers for threads, needles, and notions, along with a removable inner board that hints at its original use as a sewing workbox. Iron warabite-style pulls and a small round knob add a subtle industrial accent, making this piece equally at home as a desktop organizer, jewelry chest, or entryway catch-all.
A characterful Taisho-era sewing box that brings the charm of vintage Japanese tansu craftsmanship to any interior.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
