Vintage Japanese Pot (SKU 25D-349-2)

Robust Showa-era tsubo with rich iron-brown glaze and applied lugs

This generous vintage Japanese storage jar, or tsubo, is coated in a deep, iron-rich brown glaze that pools and thins to reveal the underlying clay, creating a warm, variegated surface. The rounded shoulders rise to a short, slightly everted neck, while the body retains the subtle spiral traces of the potter’s wheel, celebrating the hand-made character prized in Japanese folk pottery.

Around the shoulder, a ring of applied clay lugs and a small impressed seal add quiet decorative interest and hint at its original role as a practical vessel for storing foodstuffs or liquids. Areas of kiln-kissed abrasion, old glaze losses and firing marks contribute to an appealing patina, making this Showa-era piece a striking accent for a wabi-sabi or mingei-inspired interior.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
