Vintage Japanese Tokkuri Pot (SKU 25D-200-2)

Showa-era stoneware tokkuri with rich, fire-kissed patina

This robust vintage Japanese pot is a classic wheel-thrown stoneware bottle, likely used as a sake or shochu tokkuri in the early Showa period. Its rounded shoulder and slender neck rise to a small everted lip, still fitted with the original aged wooden stopper that speaks to years of practical use in the countryside.

The surface shows beautiful natural yakishime firing effects, shifting from deep umber to warm reddish-brown where the flame has licked the clay. Subtle kiln marks, ash speckling, and uneven coloration give this 1930s Showa-era piece an understated wabi-sabi presence, making it ideal as an accent object on a tansu, tokonoma, or modern shelf display.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
