Vintage Japanese Obi, Showa Era (SKU 25S-547-15)
Showa-era fukuro obi with lavish kiku and fan motifs in soft ivory and jewel tones
This vintage Japanese obi is woven in the fukuro style, featuring an elegant ivory ground densely patterned with kiku (chrysanthemums), botan (peonies), and stylised pine in overlapping fan-shaped cartouches. The rich brocade work, highlighted with metallic threads, creates a refined yet vibrant textile ideal for collectors of mid-20th-century Showa kimono art.
Traditional motifs such as folding fans, floral roundels and auspicious landscape scenes are rendered in shades of crimson, plum, gold, and deep green, giving the obi a timeless, celebratory feel suited to formal wear or interior display. Whether draped on a tansu, mounted as a wall hanging, or repurposed for textile art, this piece offers an authentic glimpse into classic Japanese design.
