Vintage Japanese Obi, Showa Era (SKU 25S-547-14)
Showa-era fukuro obi with auspicious cranes, pine and formal gift motifs in rich metallic brocade
This vintage Japanese obi is woven in an opulent fukuro style, featuring cranes (tsuru), pine fans, and stylised gift boxes tied with bold cords and tassels. The soft cream ground is densely brocaded with gold and warm autumnal tones, creating a luminous textile that captures the celebratory spirit of mid-Showa formal wear.
Designed originally to accompany a formal kimono, this obi’s intricate patterning and metallic threads make it equally suited today for display as a wall hanging, table runner, or for creative textile projects. The classic combination of auspicious motifs symbolising longevity and good fortune gives this piece enduring decorative and cultural appeal.
