Vintage Japanese Obi, Showa Era (SKU 25S-547-13)
Showa-era fukuro obi with lavish chrysanthemum and seasonal motif brocade
This vintage Japanese obi is woven on a soft ivory ground with an opulent array of kiku (chrysanthemums), ume blossoms, and stylised fans in shimmering gold, russet, indigo and cream. The dense nishiki-style brocade captures the celebratory spirit of mid-Showa formal wear, originally intended to be worn with a homongi or furisode for auspicious occasions.
Layered gift-box and tied-ribbon motifs, together with flowing botan and floral roundels, create a rich sense of movement that reads beautifully whether displayed flat or draped. The textile has a satisfying weight and sheen, making it ideal not only as a collector’s obi but also as a statement piece for interior decor, such as a wall hanging, table runner, or bespoke textile project.
