Vintage Japanese Fukuro Obi for Kimono (SKU 25M-547-9)

Showa-era fukuro obi with auspicious crane, pine, and floral motifs in rich brocade

This vintage Japanese obi showcases an elegant composition of tsuru (crane), matsu (pine), and seasonal flowers, meticulously woven in shimmering brocade on a soft, pale ground. The crane in mid-flight, framed by stylised pines and layered chrysanthemums, evokes classic wedding and formal wear from mid-Showa Japan, where such motifs symbolised longevity, prosperity, and joyful celebration.

Likely a formal fukuro obi, it would have been paired with a homongi or furisode kimono for festive occasions, yet it now lends itself beautifully to contemporary interiors and textile projects. The dense silk-like weave, subtle metallic highlights, and refined colour palette make this obi ideal for display as wall art, a table runner, or for upcycling into luxury accessories while preserving its distinctly Japanese character.

  • Origin: Japan
  • Era: Showa period (mid-20th century, c. 1950s)
  • Material: Silk brocade with metallic threads (likely fukuro obi weave)

  • Dimensions: Approx. 165" x 12"
  • Condition: Excellent vintage condition with light, age-appropriate wear
