Vintage Japanese Fukuro Obi For Kimono (SKU 25M-547-7)
Showa-era fukuro obi with lavish seasonal florals and classic courtly motifs
This vintage Japanese obi is woven on a soft ivory ground with an exuberant tapestry of chrysanthemums, pine, and stylized florals layered over classic courtly motifs such as the gosho-guruma (ox cart). Rich shades of gold, russet, persimmon, green, and plum are rendered in dense silk and metallic threads, creating a luxurious surface that catches the light with every fold.
Likely a mid-Showa fukuro obi, it would have been paired with a formal kimono for festive occasions. Today it is equally suited for wearing, display on a byōbu or hanging rod, or repurposing into high-end textile art, cushions, or framing. The traditional motifs, excellent weaving, and well-preserved colors make this a versatile piece for collectors and designers seeking authentic Japanese décor.
