Vintage Japanese Mizusashi Water Jar (SKU 25D-017-1)

Rust-speckled white glaze mizusashi with hand-formed lid and side lugs

This compact Japanese mizusashi presents a softly undulating thrown form coated in a milky white glaze, scattered with warm iron speckles and flashes of reddish clay showing through at the rim and foot. The thickly applied glaze pools in subtle drips and pinholes, giving the surface an appealing, tactile character that suits the quiet atmosphere of the tea room.

A snug, matching lid with rounded knop sits within a recessed collar, while small hand-pulled lugs on the sides recall traditional water jars used in chanoyu. Likely a contemporary studio piece from the Heisei era, this versatile vessel can serve as a functional mizusashi for tea ceremony or as a distinctive chawan-style accent jar for flowers, utensils, or everyday storage.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
