Showa-era standing mirror with carved peony and rich vermilion-and-black lacquer work
This elegant vintage Japanese standing mirror captures the refined sensibility of mid-Showa interiors. A tall rectangular glass is framed by a dark lacquered wood body, raised on sturdy splayed feet that recall traditional byōbu screen supports. The lower panel is richly carved with a bold peony motif, symbol of prosperity and beauty, emerging from a textured ground of small hexagonal scales.
The surface is finished in a deep, almost black, red lacquer that highlights the hand-tooled patterning and the layered petals of the flower. Designed for use in a dressing room, washitsu, or entryway, this Showa-era mirror adds both practical function and a strong decorative presence, blending vintage Japanese charm with a clean, vertical silhouette that suits contemporary spaces.
A refined Showa accent piece that brings depth, texture, and classic Japanese floral symbolism to any interior.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
