Vintage Japanese Matcha Powder Container For Tea Ceremony — Ceramic, 1960s, Showa Era (SKU: 25S-412-3)
Exquisite craftsmanship from the Showa era
This Showa-era Kyo-yaki (京焼) chaire (茶入 – tea caddy) is crafted in the elegant katatsuki (肩衝) form, featuring sharp shoulders and a gracefully rounded body. Its deep black glaze is beautifully interrupted by a single mottled brown and white drip along the shomen (front), adding expressive contrast and individuality to the piece.
Paired with a teal silk shifuku (仕覆) adorned with floral motifs and a purple drawstring, the chaire exudes refined Kyoto sophistication. Accompanied by its original wooden box, this tea container reflects the exceptional craftsmanship and aesthetic sensibility of mid-20th-century Kyoto pottery.
A functional yet collectible vessel, it stands as a testament to Japan’s enduring tea culture and artisanal heritage — perfect for both display and ceremonial use.
