Vintage Japanese Magic Hammer With Mouse (SKU 25D-258)

Showa-era bronze “uchide no kozuchi” fortune hammer topped with a charming mouse, symbol of prosperity and clever luck.

This finely cast vintage Japanese magic hammer, or uchide no kozuchi, is richly patinated in deep brown tones and decorated with incised swirling grain to evoke carved wood. Perched on the crown of the hammer is a beautifully modeled mouse, its paws raised as if nibbling a treasure, with crisp detailing to the fur, ears, and tail that trails down the body of the piece.

In Japanese folklore, the wish-granting hammer is associated with Daikoku, god of wealth, while the mouse (nezumi) is his quick-witted companion and a traditional emblem of abundance. Together they make this piece an auspicious desk or shelf sculpture, ideal for a tansu display, tokonoma alcove, or as a distinctive accent in a collection of Showa-era bronzes and folk art.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
