This is a vintage Japanese large wooden Soroban, abacus from mid. 1900s. This kind of abacus is used at school, so it is easy for students to understand.

Soroban is composed of 1 beads on the higher deck and 4 beads on the lower deck. Like the suanpan, the soroban is still used today, despite the proliferation of practical and affordable pocket electronic calculators. Large wooden Soroban is getting hard to find these days, and will be great to add to your collection.
