This is a vintage Japanese lacqured tray called Hiro Futa from Late Meiji period (1890's-1910's).

Hiro Futa (Buta) is a try which is used to place a gift such as kimono, often used during the engagement ceremony so the tray is decorated with auspicious motif.

Because it is used to store kimono, Hiro Futa is rectangular shape with lips.

This tray has a beautiful Makie lacquer nicely hand-painted on Nashiji background in each Ogi, folding fans and some areas have silver.
