This is an antique Japanese personal storage chest called Ko Tansu from Taisho (1910's-1920's). It was used to store letters, documents, books and other items for daily use. Made of Paulownia wood (Kirinoki). Upper area behind a pair of sliding door has nice storage for large items and the lower area has 4 drawers to store small items.
Contemporary uses for this piece include placement on a desk for additional office storage or using this as an elegant side table.
