This is an vintage 1 section Japanese personal storage chest called Ko Tansu from Taisho (1910's-1902's).
It was used to store letters, documents, books and other items for daily use. It is made of Maple (Momiji), Cypress (Hinoki) and Cryptomeria (Suginoki) woods.
Contemporary uses for this piece include placement on a desk for additional office storage or using this as an elegant side table.
