This is an antique Japanese personal storage chest called Ko Tansu from Late Meiji period (1890's-1900's). It was used to store letters, documents, books and other items for daily use. Made of 100% Paulownia (Kirinoki) wood.
This tansu comes in different size of drawers and contemporary uses for this piece include placement on a desk for additional office storage or using this as an elegant side table.
